CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS COMMITTEE
Chair Joyce Cassidy writes “The Constitution Committee would like to thank everyone again for their participation on the revision and on their role in voting to adopt the changes to the WCCFT Constitution, which are now in place. At our next Executive Committee meeting, we will have a discussion on whether it is warranted to create by-laws for the WCCFT. We will report back at our March membership meeting.”
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Chair Ellen Zendman reports: “The Political Action Committee met with David Imamura on February 1. He is a candidate running in District 12 for a seat on the Board of Legislators. David is unchallenged in a February 28 special election for an unexpired term. The questions we asked had been posed to all the BOL candidates in prior interviews. His responses were thoughtful and showed willingness to learn more about the college and its faculty. We appreciated the time David spent with us and look forward to further learning about his background, his positions on local issues, and his leadership abilities.”
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND COMMITTEE
Chair Gwen Roundtree Evans writes: “A call for applications from adjunct faculty who have participated in professional development activities will be made and applications will be accepted between March 1 and March 31.”
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
Chair Robin Graff writes: “We recently lost our beloved colleague Joanna Peters, a dedicated member of the union E-board who passionately served a long tenure as Chair of the WCCFT Scholarship Committee. The E-board has decided to honor her memory by designating one of the WCCFT scholarships in her name. Beginning this semester, three $500 scholarships will be awarded to honor deceased union leaders Rafael Rodriguez, Richard Rosell, and Joanna Peters.”
“We began this year with a lofty goal of raising $4000 to award four $1000 scholarships. At this time, we have not even raised enough to cover the intended three $500 scholarships. Please consider donating in Joanna’s name so that we can meet this goal and honor her memory as well as our other colleagues gone too soon. Your donation will help students pay tuition, buy books, secure transportation, Wi-Fi, laptops, or whatever they may need to help complete their education.”Donations may be made online at WCCFT Scholarship Donation Link or by check
Donations by check should be sent to the WCCFT Office, Tech Building, Room 32. Please make checks payable to American Federation of Teachers. You can indicate WCCFT Scholarship Donation in the memo section.
