ADJUNCT COMMITTEE
The Adjunct Committee has hung up posters explaining adjunct rights and benefits throughout the main campus and at each of the extension sites. Individual brochures outlining adjunct rights and benefits have been distributed to mailboxes both on and off campus. Anyone who did not receive a brochure can request one from committee chair Virginia Caputo at virginiacwccft@gmail.com.
To provide further details about adjunct rights and benefits, the Adjunct Committee will be holding information sessions at 7:00pm on the second Wednesday of the month on Zoom (Meeting ID: 816 3707 5979; Passcode: 058900). The meetings are open to all adjuncts – teaching and non-teaching, credit and non-credit, Union and non-Union members. The first of these information sessions will be held on March 12th, and the focus will be an overview of the Union. Please join us!
GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE
Grievance Committee chair Deirdre Verne writes:
Drum roll please! Thanks to an adjunct professor of percussion, we finally settled a grievance regarding a dispute over contracted hours and pay for Music 145A, Applied Music. The union had been notified by a concerned adjunct that the hours required to instruct students in private drum lessons did not match the paid hours specified in the adjunct contract. This discrepancy resulted in a reduction in compensation amounting to one third the negotiated rate, and a number well below music industry pay standards.
Working closely with Professors Rosemarie Serrano and Erika Mahr as well as Dr. Morest, all of whom recognized the need to maintain industry standards, we are pleased to announce that a settlement was reached that will increase the pay for private music instruction for all instructors teaching Music 145A, Applied Music by over 50%.
